For the first time in years, summer season bookings are available at the one-of-a-kind camp that sells out six months in advance
SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK, Calif., July 26, 2012—For nearly eight decades Sequoia National Park hikers have enjoyed the luxurious tent cabins, warm beds, hot showers and home-cooked gourmet meals at Bearpaw High Sierra Camp, operated by Delaware North Companies Parks & Resorts at Sequoia and managed by Wuksachi Lodge. With only six cabins, reservations for the camp’s summer season typically sell out in two hours each January. However, for the first time in recent memory, reservations can be made for August and September dates after a legal issue over permits allowing pack mules to transport supplies in the National Park delayed its opening this summer.
The one-of-a-kind camp sits at the end of an 11.5 mile moderate hike along the High Sierra Trail in the backcountry of Sequoia National Park. The outbound journey, which ends at an elevation of 7,800 feet, offers breathtaking views of the Great Western Divide, creek crossings and countless glimpses of wildlife.
Since Bearpaw’s inception, all supplies have been transported in and out of the camp via pack mules, which were permitted to resume supplying the camp once the legal issue was resolved earlier this year.
"This is a really rare opportunity for anyone who has ever wanted the unique Bearpaw experience but couldn't book in time," said Wuksachi Lodge Assistant General Manager Brandy Frederich.
Available dates and online specials are being shared on the Bearpaw High Sierra Camp Facebook page and reservations can also be found at

To allow time to acclimate to the elevation and get a good night’s rest before hiking or driving home, it is recommended that would-be campers stay at Wuksachi Lodge the night before and after their Bearpaw High Sierra Camp experience. For lodge reservations, call (866) 449-4902 or visit
